The Best Restaurants to Try in Atlanta

There is so much good food in Atlanta and we can attest to this! If you’re looking for the best places to eat in Atlanta, you might find that you simply don’t have the time to visit all of them during one trip. To keep things simple, we’ve made a tiny list of recommendations for when you’re next in ATL. We can transport you around in one of our many vehicle options or customize a food tour with us and we can take you to some of the authentically local places. There’s a whole lot more to the city’s culinary scene than just Southern cooking nowadays!

The Optimist

Location: 914 Howell Mill Rd, Atlanta, GA 30318, United States
For prime seafood and a lobster roll that many consider to be the best meal in the city, head to The Optimist. Built out of an old warehouse, this restaurant epitomizes everything new about the A City. Atlanta now has a huge range of diverse cuisine options in diverse locations and we still find ourselves constantly discovering new places throughout this city!

O4W Pizza

Location: 3117 Main St, Duluth, GA 30096, United States
Of course, Atlanta has its take on the classic New York slice. Dare we say that we’ve got something better? O4W Pizza is something that every Atlantan will drive the distance for. With the sauces, bases, meatballs, and all the other good stuff made in-house, this is a pizza you won’t soon forget. If you’re overwhelmed by all the delicious options, definitely go with the Grandma Pie – the secret is that it’s cooked in a cast-iron pan.

Gunshow

Location: 924 Garrett St, Atlanta, GA 30316, United States
With a food scene that never seems to stop inventing itself, Gunshow is still at the top of the game. The serving style is a blend of tapas and dim sum, where the plate is wheeled in front of the diner at their table as they decide whether they will take it or skip it. The only issue is, you won’t want to pass any! What’s more – the open kitchen adds to the performance and thrill of a truly memorable dining experience.

Taqueria del Sol

4 Atlanta Area Locations: Westside Atlanta, Cheshire Bridge Atlanta, Decatur and Chamblee
This Mexican joint has four locations around Atlanta, and all of them seem to have lines spilling out their doors. For a relaxed, cheap, quality, and delicious meal head to Taqueria del Sol, where in addition to a scrumptious meal, the light furnishings will definitely brighten your mood. Try any of the Southern Mexican tacos and the cheese sauce for a mouthwatering time.

The Varsity

Location: 61 North Avenue NW, Atlanta, GA 30308, United States
Since it opened in 1928, the Varsity has become an institution of Atlanta. Taking up an impressive two city blocks and fitting up to 800 diners, this is the world’s largest drive-in restaurant! They offer the American classics, think hotdogs, onion rings, and hamburgers. No trip to the city is complete without passing through the Varsity, which is why we include it on our Roundabout Atlanta City Tour as well as our City Lights Tour.

Ticonderoga Club

Location: 99 Krog St NE W, Atlanta, GA 30307, United States
Named after an old New York bunker, this underground hideaway is ambient, mysterious, cheap, and yum! Ticonderoga Club is part-bar, part-restaurant offering an awesome variety of plates from seasonal chef choices to the club classics. From spiced eggplant, steak tartare, and braised beef short rib, this is perfect for your late-night-eats needs (or anytime eating, to be honest!).

Masterpiece

Location: 3940 Buford Hwy NE b103, Duluth, GA 30096, United States
You’d never guess what this restaurant was just judging by its name. Tucked away in a strip mall, this restaurant is completely unassuming but regarded as the best Chinese food in the Atlanta area and maybe even in the South. The chef offers a not-so-spicy balance of Szechuan cuisine that everyone can enjoy. With all the classic Chinese dishes you can expect, the name will make sense once you’ve eaten here.
